City Earnings Tax
Only a quarter of the United States’ large urban cities implement earnings taxes. Just 17 states choose to use earnings taxes in some of their cities. Missouri’s two largest cities, St. Louis and Kansas City, are facing their worst budget shortfalls in years. Urban sprawl, crime, underdevelopment, and few incentives for businesses all affect these two cities. If giving money to the government when times are bad doesn’t even work, then why do it at all?
